Does this look familiar to anyone else, or is it just me?

She’s the coolest of the cool
She’s the toughest of the tough
She’s the grooviest punk rock girl
She’s the queen of the scene in the neighborhood - “Tamara’s a Punk” (The Queers)
That is, to my knowledge, the only song with my name in it. Of course, they pronounce it incorrectly (It’s tah-mar-ah, not tam-air-ah. Or, if it helps, think of it like yesterday, today and tamara. (thanks, V!)), but it’s Hampton, NH’s The Queers! (We live one town south of Hampton, which to me, is uber cool. We also buy our pizza from the Papa Gino’s where Pamela Smart’s teen lover worked, but I digress. Ah, Seabrook, you certainly are an interesting little town.)
Anyhoo, work’s been eating me alive to the point where one of our vendors is placing bets on how long I’ll stay. It’s not that the job sucks so much, it’s just that I inherited an ungodly mess. It will get better in time, I know this, but holy hannah it bites the big one right now. It’s a good day when I can hold my own with the big boys. A lot of the vendors have begun to love me, as have a lot of our clients, because I don’t mince words and I can cuss like a sailor. [You wouldn’t know that from this blog, but spend a few minutes with me in real life and you’ll see.] Working in construction isn’t so different from working in hockey. Or being an only child with an ex-cop as a dad. You learn how to handle yourself. You grow certain bits that do not belong on women. You earn the right to hold the secret key.
BU lost to a 1-8-1 team last night. All I have to say is Rollheiser = FAIL! OMG! That kid sucks. I know Saturday is BC - which is a HUGE game - so he probably wanted to rest Millan, but dude, bring Bennett back from exile. Or let Kraus play. ANYTHING but putting Rollheiser in net.
So, yeah, BC on Saturday and skiing on Sunday. Hopefully I come back from Stratton alive! It’s been a while since I’ve gone skiing (on a real mountain), but I can definitely use the distraction.
Things that make me happy on a really bad, bad, terrible day

I had an absolutely terrible day at work today. It was the kind of Monday where quitting sounds better every. single. second. I don’t know why Mondays at the new employer are so phenomenally bad, but they are. It makes me wonder if I’d do better shifting to a Tuesday - Saturday work week…
But today had some moments that pulled me from the brink. To those people and things I am beyond grateful.
1) Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” Perfect song for sitting in traffic after a crap day.
2) Cousin Oliver’s “Shot My Boss.” Ditto.
3) Wally Pleasant’s “Stupid Day Job.” Double ditto.
4) AAA of Northern New England for taking responsibility for their tow truck driver’s stupidity and sending us a check to replace the two rear tires on the Jetta. (We needed to replace both of them! Grrr.) Still mad that the tow truck company told us to go *** ourselves, but really happy AAA picked up the entire tab.
5) R.E.M.‘s “Ignoreland”. Best gratuitous use of the f-word today.
6) Not one but TWO Lamy Safari limited edition fountain pens in the mail today.
7) The thought that there’s a BU hockey game tomorrow and they’re giving away free t-shirts. Bonus!
8) Hearing that someone whose opinion I respect really enjoyed what I thought were crappy pictures. And made a point to ask me if I would take more.
*sigh* Now I can go to bed with the weight of the world removed off my shoulders… until next Monday. *grin*
I *heart* New England

Nothing brings me more joy than the double whammy of a Boston University win and driving home from the game in the snow.
Sometimes, I can’t believe how awesome it is to be back home.
Hey, hey baby!

bu vs maine :: agganis arena :: feb 16, 2008
I didn’t take any pictures at the Maine game tonight, even though I brought my camera. To be honest, I kind of forgot I even had it. It was quite possibly the best 60 minutes of hockey I have ever seen BU play. I practically lost my mind when Higgy scored with POINT EIGHT seconds left in the first period. The only icky thing about tonight’s win is Pereira’s 5 minute major & ejection for a hit from behind. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the major and misconduct, but I don’t think the refs are using the same criteria every game. In Friday night’s BC/UVM game, there were two hits from behind. One got called as a 2 min. minor (boarding, on BC) and the second was a 5 min. major against VT. I think they were both hits from behind and I think BC should have gotten 5 minutes as well.
Shatty is not doing well with keeping to his New Year’s Resolution. If you look at this picture, you can see his mouthguard hanging out.
I don’t have the words right now for the “real” stuff that’s on my mind. I got a part time job doing someone’s book and I’ve gotten myself a new “stalker”. I’ve got people on my mind who aren’t responding to emails and while I know B will probably never read this, I just need him to pop in and tell me he’s OK.
*sigh*
Today’s new game craze: “Spot Shatty’s Thing”

I’ve noticed over the past season and a half that Kevin Shattenkirk never wears his mouthguard. He uses it as a chew toy. Seriously.
Apparently, I’m not the only one who has noticed: “Kevin Shattenkirk’s New Year Resolution.” I love Hot Dog and Jesus; they’re one of my favorite pieces of BU Hockey tradition. (I’m going to miss them when they graduate. I really look forward to seeing them every game.)
It became kind of a joke between J and I - especially during the IIHF tourney the past two weeks. It seemed like every single time the camera panned on him, it’d be hanging out of his mouth. So we started watching for it. I think “Spot Shatty’s Thing” became my favorite part of the tourney.
In other news, my first pass at the sock’s partner just wound up in the frog pond. I’m not looking forward to starting it again, but I will. *sigh*
